WMU®

Equipping, Encouraging, & Empowering

Since its beginning in 1888, the Woman’s Missionary Union® or WMU® has become the largest Protestant missions organization for women in the world, with a membership of approximately 1 million.

EBC has an active WMU that seeks to promote missions education as well as the mission program of the church.  We have a number of small groups of which women of all ages can be a part.  These groups meet regularly to pray together and discuss how they can aid the local church and association in mission work that is taking place across the street and around the world.  Women in these groups also seek to work closely with the GA’s and Acteens to develop girls and young women to be the WMU leaders of tomorrow.

If you are a female who has a heart for missions we invite you to join us as we seek to equip, encourage and empower ourselves and others to know Christ and make Him known.

Although originally geared towards women, girls, and preschoolers, both genders are active participants in WMU organizations and ministries today.

WMU is an auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Convention, which means that it acts as a "helper" to the SBC. The auxiliary status also means that WMU is self-governing and self-supporting.

What Is WMU?

From the beginning, WMU’s main purpose has been to educate and involve women, girls, and preschoolers in the cause of Christian missions. Throughout its history, WMU has been an auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Convention.

Financially, WMU supports its work through the sale of magazines and products and from investments. National WMU receives no Cooperative Program allocations or Annie Armstrong or Lottie Moon offering dollars.
